[new Terms] Times
closes #17 (closed), closes #48, closes #47, closes #46 (closed), closes #18
During the discussion on 2021-12-13 various time related terms came up which will be bundled here in a semantic cluster. Theses are gathered here to be defined in relation:
-
dwell time (#17 (closed)) is the duration during which the beam remains on one position.
-
wait time is duration where you are not acquiring data
-
acquisition time (#47): def. is the product of dwell time and duty cycle
-
flyback time (#46 (closed)): def. is defined for repeatedly scanning the same geometrical primitive. It cannot be applied to a random scan. It is the time to go from the final position of a scan to the starting position of the subsequent scan.
other related terms to be integrated into this:
-
electron dose (#18): def absolute number of electrons that hit a given area e.g. per square angstrom. It depends on #16 how long to reach a certain dose
vs.product of beamcurrent #16 dwell time #17 and illuminated area gives you the dose
-
scanning operation: def.

duty cycle the percentage of time during which acquisition takes place. Related to periodically happening process which has two states. State a and state b. State a is the active state. State b is the passive state. a/(a+b) = duty cycle Note that we need to look at definitions from the electronics community here -
total acquisition time -
